Dear Parents,
I am honored (and a bit nervous), to be writing on such an important matter. My hope is that through this blog, parents, teachers, and any other guardians of loved ones that are struggling with suicide, depression and bullying, can be comforted and led to resources for support.
I personally relate to parents that have children that are struggling and all of the heart ache that comes with it. My oldest daughter, who is almost 16, has struggled with this for many many years.
As a parent, I have agonized for and about my daughter, I have been pained with many questions that have run through my mind;
‘What could I have done better?’
‘What can I do now?’
‘Can anything be done?’
‘How do I do this?’
One of the things that would bother me is when I would be talking to a friend about my daughter and they would ignorantly respond with “It’ll work out, it’ll all be fine”. Well guess what? That’s not always the case, and I know this. This isn’t something to be taken lightly, something that can just be ignored and hope that it will go away. Action needs to be taken! I am so grateful and glad for the mission of ARISE and what it is doing to bring more light and awareness to this issue.
From one parent to another, I will share my experiences (the good and the bad), what has helped my daughter, what has helped me, and resources to get you through this…….to get all of us through this…...together!
Jill
